Seniors, Veterans, and Disabled Health Initiative for Emotional and Lifelong Development (SHIELD) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities across the greater Chicagoland area. Our mission is to ensure that vulnerable neighbors have the essentials they need to live safely, independently, and with dignity. Through community partnerships, SHIELD provides grocery delivery and household necessities, assistance with the cost of medications, and financial support for transportation to medical appointments. We also supply vital equipment such as walkers and wheelchairs to individuals whose insurance does not cover them. Beyond physical resources, SHIELD is committed to offering emotional support and connecting individuals to mental health resources that strengthen their overall wellbeing.
